Abstract: Pyramiding resistance genes have been suggested as one of the most effective methods for proventing?breakdown of major gene conferring resistance to blast within a very short period. The PCR markers of the blast resistence gene Pi40 and Pib were used to identify the genes in F2plants of combination among the rice lines containing Pi40 and Pib respectively. The results indicated that all the plants containing any one gene, two genes of Pi40?and Pib showed resistane to blast, while the plants lacking the resistance gene were susceptible to blast. The tightlylinked markers of the resistance genes were powerful tools for the identification of Pi40 and Pib in breeding program. 28 plants pyramiding two genes of Pi40 and Pib were selected from 50 plants of the F2population. They can?be used as parents to breed rice for blast resistance.
