Abstract: One full-length cDNA encoding a Ptil(Pto- interacting 1) homologue was isolated from maize through in silico cloning and named as ZmPtil-1.The predicted ZmPtil-1 protein has 362 amino acids with an est imated molecular mass of 39. 00 kDa and an isoelectric point of 8. 14 The putative kinase catalytic domain of ZmPtil-1 contains the 11 subdomains that are typical in protein kinase. ZmPtil-1 expression was up-regulated obviously by salicylic acid, mannitol, NaCl, absicic acid and low temperature(4) in young leaves of maize. Furthermore, ZmPtil-1 displayed different expression patterns in different growth stages and tissues and was most abundant in ovaries, but was undetectable in tassels. These results demonstrated that ZmPtil-1 is a maize Ptil- like gene and responds to biot ic and abiotic stress signals.
