Abstract: Rabbit defensin NP-1 gene has a broad resistance spectrum to pathogens. In order to obtain high disease and insect resistance transgenic wheat, rabbit defensin NP-1gene was introduced into the wheat cultivar of G8901, via the pollen-tube pathway. Four transgenic plants were obtained by screening of 193 T0 generation plants with herbicide. Genomic PCR and PCR-Southern revealed that NP-1 gene was integrated into the genome of these transgenic plants, and it was transmitted to T1 generation stably. The results of disease resistance and insect resistance appraisal showed that these plants had got higher resistance to powdery mildew, leaf rust and stripe rust, but the resistance to aphid had not been improved, which revealed that NP-1 gene had expressed in wheat genome.
