Abstract: The effects of Ca2+/CaM on growth and POD isoenzymes of winter wheat (cv.winter No.8 fengkang) seedlings under water stress were studied. The results showed that Ca2+/CaM,as the second messengers, played important roles in transducting drought signal. They not only increased the activities of POD isoenzymes, but also enhanced the adaptability of wheat seedings to drought. The effects were positive proportion to the Ca2+ concentration.Among drought signal systems,POD isoenzyme genes were possibly more sensitive to drought signal transfered by Ca2+/CaM messengers. The drought signal could be transducted among the different organs of wheat plant.Compared to leaves,POD isoenzyme genes in roots had higher adaptability to water stress.
