Polymorphism of MyoD1 Gene and Relationship Between Genotypes and Breast Development Traits in Gaoyou Duck

Abstract: In order to explore the molecular marker for breeding the Gaoyou duck breed. In this study,based on the LDR method,a new SNPs was found on Gaoyou duck MyoD1 gene with its transition T→A. Three genotypes AA,TA and TT were found in the population,and AA and TA were dominant genotypes. The transition of this locus was at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in Gaoyou duck. Relationship with the breast muscle development traits was analysised. Statistical analysis revealed that a higher value of body weight,breast weight,breast fiber area,breast average diameter and breast density for individuals with genotype TA than AA and TT(P<0.05),and there was no difference between the genotype AA and TT(P>0.05). These results indicated that genotype TA could be used as molecular marker for developing of Gaoyou duck breast muscle,further studies on a bigger population size and more duck breeds are needed to confirm the observed effect of MyoD1 genotypes on breast muscle traits.
