Abstract: Using paraffin slice technique and biochemical analysis, the microsporegenesis and content of free praline, soluble protein, coarse and viability of peroxidase (POD),polyphenoloxidase(PPO)of sterile line(9601A)and maintainer line(9601B)of red pepper were studied. The results showed as follows:The development of the microspore mother cells in the sterile line was normal. The microspore abortion occurred before the tetrads formation. At prophase of meipsis (Leptotene),the tapetal cells begin to grow in radial direction and became highly vacudated which effected on the synthesis and transportation of nutrition materials that microspore needed in formation and development, which is the main course of leading to the microspore abortion. The content of free praline, soluble protein and coarse protein in sterile line anthers was significantly lower than that of in maintainer line anthers, and the viability of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in sterile line anther was significantly higher than that of in maintainer line anther.
