Abstract: The technique of SDS-PAGE was used for the waxy gene(null)mutant selection among 1270 varieties from both landraces and breading lines of domestic and aboard origin.Sixty-three Wx-B1(null)varieties,4 Wx-D1(null)mutants and 2 Wx-E materials were successfully obtained. The discovery of hong niemai and baimangbai enriched breading parents and established a solid foundation for wheat quality breeding in China. This will enable us to create new waxy wheat cultivars. The waxy gene of Elytrigia elongata(HOST).Beauv is different form that of Triticum aestivum and further study on molecular level should be conducted. The result indicated that landraces and breading lines follow the same mutant pattern. The frequency pat tern provides us useful information in future mutant selection form breading lines
