Abstract: The experiment of water saving irrigation for winter wheat was conducted in the experiment area of China Agricultural University during 1993 and 1994.The dynamics of dry matter accumulation and partitioning were carefully observed. The results indicated that the total assimilate production and dry matter accumulation increased with irrigation at a higher rate and on an earlier date .There existed positive correlation between root and shoot growth before reaching maximal root biomass at the anthesis stage, which then turned to be negative correlation because of root decay .The proportion of dry matter distributed to root and R/S increased under soil water deficiency.R/S was influenced greatly by soil water before the booting stage, and then it was little affected by soil water .The flowering and jointing stages are two periods during which winter wheat is especially sensitive to soil water .Attentions should be paid on management of soil water in the field during the flowering and grain filling stage .
