Abstract: Studies were made of the fertilization and embryo development in intergeneric crossing between Triticum aestivum L and Leymus chinensis. The pollen germination of Leymus chinensis appeared normal on the stigma of Triticum aestivum L and the pollen tube grew into the style and entered the embryo sacs.Double and single fertilization were observed in the pollinated florets of the 310 ovaries examined 17(5.5%)had double fertilization and had embryo and endosperm.Two(0.63%)had only embryo and 7(2.2%)had endosperm. However, the total percentage of fertilization was occupied 8.3%,and the seed was hardly obtained; yet it may be suggested that the potential of increasing the frequency of hybrid plant obtainment was great in the cross between wheat and Leymus chinensis T.,if embryo culture technique is employed at the early stage of hybrid embryo development.
