Isolation and Identification of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus of HN-HW Strain

Abstract: A porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(PRRSV) strain was isolated from the lung of an infected pig in Ningxiang county of Hunan province. The results showed that the virus could induce cytopathogenic effect(CPE) on Marc-145 line. A 670 bp DNA fragment of ORF5 gene could be amplified using RT-PCR analysis from the isolated virus RNA. Positive reaction appeared when the virus was tested using the fluorescent antibody of PRRSV VR-2332 standard strain. Observation of ultramicrostructure with the electron microscope showed that the size of typical shape of PRRSV was 50-60 nm. The isolated strain was designed as HN-HW strain.
