Abstract: A highly nuclear-male-sterile line of foxtail millet with recessive nuclear sterile gene,100% of the sterility percentage and 95% of sterility degree rate was crossed with a superior restoner line for breeding a hybrid strain.A good-quality F1 of the hybrid was selected to sow, according to the breeding objective. After selecting the superior sterile plants from the F2 fertility segregating population the composite-crossing among the foxtail millet varieties and rotational selecting population breeding were conducted using the sterile gene to alter the self-pollination into allogamy-pollination.Six varieties and a series of variant generation materials with favourable characters were bred.
