Abstract: Peroxidase isozymes electrophoretic analyses on embryos plus scutella from forty wheat varieties, four ryes and two triticales revealed differences in the middle of the zymograms (B range) of resistant and susceptible varieties.86% of the varieties with many more intense bands (MIB) including Rf 0.50 and Rf 0.56 bands at the B range showed resistance, while 91% of the varieties with few MIB's or with no Rf 0.50 and Rf 0.56 bands at the B range showed susceptibility. Therefore, peroxidase isozymes analyses on embryos plus scutella of wheat was considered to be a simple, practical and highly reliable method for the evaluation of resistance to powdery mildew of wheat.
