Abstract: Two cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.)cultivars were grown in a hydroponics culture system to study the ef -fects of slcon(S)on the lpd peroxdaon and active oxygen scavenging systems n seedling leaves under salt stress. Theresults showed that, under salt stress, addng Scould sgnfcantly increased the actvtiesof superoxde dismutase(SOD),ascorbate peroxidase(AsA -POD)and guaacol peroxidase(G -POD)and the content of ascorbc acid(AsA)and glutathionereduced form(GSH)in cucumber leaves, while markedly decreased the malondialdehyde(MDA)content. Compared withthe plants treated with salt alone, addton of Ssgnfcantly increased the relative water content(RWC)and decreased theelectrolytic leakage percentage in plants leaves for both cultivars, so that alleviated the damage of cucumber seedlingscaused by salt stress. The results of the present study suggested that Ss nvolved in the metabolc or physologicalchanges n higher plants.
