Abstract: In this study the catechol oxidase isozymes relative to cytoplasmic male- sterile character were analysed in wheat, The results showed that the obvious differences of catechol oxidase isozyme were observed at different anther development stages of cytoplasmic male一sterile line and maintainer line in wheat, The catechol oxidase isozyme bands of male一sterile line were more than that of maintainer line, 12 isozyme bands (xylE,一xylE,:)appeared in cytoplasmic male-sterile line (65C/474A, Shi 63 r4A),but 10-11 isozyme bands (xylEl-xylEl。,xylEl一xylE;1)were present in maintainer line (65C/ 474B, Shi 63 r4 B).xylE4 may be a basic band because it was present in two cytoplasmic male一sterile lines and maintainer lines of wheat, The pistil catechol oxidase isozymes of male一sterile line and maintainer line were approximately same, It is indicated that it may be a normal ferti- lity of pistil in m ale一sterile line and maintainer line, In all developmental stages of anther the difference of catechol oxidase isozyme can be examined, It may be a genetic constitutionally uncoordinated action in male一sterile line, From these results it was proposed that certain relation between catechol oxidase isozyme and male一sterile character may be present,
