Abstract: T he variation of activities of PPO, POD and PALwere analyzed in leaves and stems/roots of hot pepper seedlings after inoculated with Phytophtora capsici L.Higher constitutive PPO, POD and PALactivities were detected in uninoculated leaves and stems/roots of the resistant cultivars, except higher constitutive POD activities in uninoculated stems/roots of the susceptible cultivars.GeneraLspeaking, the three enzyme activities in leaves and POD in the stems/roots of alLtested cultivar seedlings were significantly higher:the most drastic enzyme reactions and the most enhancement of enzymes are that PPO, POD, PALactivities in the inoculated leaves and POD activities in the inoculated stems/roots of the high susceptible cultivars.T he enhancement of POD activities in the inoculated seedlings and PPO activities in the inoculated leaves of the resistant cultivars were much more than those in the susceptible cultivars, and less than in the high susceptible cultivars. An early and rapid increase of PALin inoculated stems/roots of the resistant cultivars were induced at 4 days after the in-oculation with the fungi, and higher constitutive PPO, POD and PALactivities in uninoculated leaves and stems/roots of the resistant cultivars may play an important role in pepper resistance to Phytophthora capsici L.

Key words: Phytophthora capsici L, Polyphenoloxidase, Peroxidase, Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase
