Abstract: The differences of root absorption activities between two different spike type varieties of winter wheat in space distribution were studied by using raidotracer technique on field. The results showed that from reviving to flaging stage the root absorption activities of variety 78 3(large spike type) was significantly higher than that of Lumai 14(small spike type) in soil mass, from 0 cm to 20 cm on lateral direction and depth about 10 cm, whose centre is central injection position or central plant on lateral directions. After flaging stage, the root absorption activities of 78 3 were significantly lower than that of Lumai 14 in the same soil mass. The difference in distribution extent of root absorption activities between two varieties was not significant. The main reason for lower grain yield of 78 3 was significant decrease of root absorption activity on mid and later period.
