Abstract:
The localization of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POX) activities in leaf cells of corn with male sterile cytoplasm(B73-CB73-'r)and normal cytoplasm (B73-N)was determined,The results showed that SOD acti}.ity was the highest in cell solute (about 77%of the total) and lower in mitochondria and chloroplast,SOD activity of cell solute and mitochondria in I}T cytoplasm was significantly higher than that in C and Tcytoplasms .As to SOX, about 85%of its total activity was present in the mitochondria and chloroplast, and 15%was in the cell solute,When the leaves of all the three cytoplasms (B73-C, 'I' and N) were treated with the host-specific toxin produced by b'.}}}aydis race C, their SOD and I'OX activities in the cell solutes were not affected, There existed a negative correlation between 50D and 1'O入activities in mitochondria of B73-C,Ll) J-‘'1' and B73-I}I.'l}herefore, the activities of SOD and POX in mitochondria could be induced by HMC-toxin and the activity of both enzymes was related to discas<: resistancet corn.
