Abstract: According to the contradiction between water resources shortage and vegetable production, the new irrigation methods of subsurface irrigation and drip irrigation were compared with flood irrigation. The effeet of different irrigation methods on the plant growth, yield of tomato and irrigation rate were studied. The plant growth and yield under subsurface irrigation and drip irrigation were higher than those under flood irrigation, the soluble solid contents under subsurface irrigation and drip irrigation were also increased. The subsurface irrigation and drip irrigation decreased significantly the irrigation rate and increased significantly water use efficiency.
