Abstract: The nitrogen assimilation and transfer efficient of different leaf-position leaves in canopy were studied using isotope 15N marked on leaf. The investigated materials were two cultivars, differing in grain protein content, Jingdong 8 (JD 8), a lower grain protein cultivar, Zhongyou 9507 (9507), a higher grain protein cultivar. The results showed that the flag leaf played more important role than that of other leaves on grain quality. JD 8 had higher transfer efficient, but lower nitrogen content in its plant. 9507 had lower nitrogen harvest index than JD 8, but higher nitrogen accumulation in plant than JD 8. High grain quality of 9507 relayed on its capability of high assimilation in plant and high deposition in stem and sheath. Grain nitrogen of JD8 relayed more on the accommodation of its leaves.
