Abstract: A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of rapeseed and chickpea on the growth and Mn nutrition of wheat in intercropping systems under different root barriers pattern. Results show that both shoot growth and Mn nutrition of wheat were significantly improved in wheat/ rapeseed or in wheat/ chickpea intercropping system. The shoot dry weight and Mn uptake by wheat in the mixed2cropping without barrier were significantly higher than those in the mono2cropping where root was constricted by the solid barrier. But the growth of rapeseed and chickpea were restrained by wheat in the mixed cropping system. Results also show that soil DTPA2Mn concentration of wheat root area in no barrier treatment was markedly higher than that in the mesh barrier or solid barrier treatment in the wheat/ rapeseed,wheat/ chickpea intercropping systems receiving nil mg/ kg Mn,and shoot Mn concentration of rapeseed, chickpea were significantly higher than their respective wheat,Mn which activated by rapeseed or chickpea was utilized by wheat in the mixed cropping systemwhen soil was lack of Mn.Those indicated that Mn nutrition in the mixed cropping wheat was significantly improved by rapeseed or chickpea.
