Abstract: The shoot dry weight, root dry weight, root volume, root total absorption area, root active absorption area,root/shoot ratio, root activity, and nitrogen uptake of five selected winter wheat genotypes were studied at booting stage by using hydroponics culture.Except the root absorption areas, all the other investigated traits showed significant differences among wheat genotypes.N uptake related well with shoot dry weight.Future correlation analysis demonstrated that variations of root dry weight and volume best explained the variations of shoot dry weight and nitrogen uptake of the five wheat genotypes. This research implies that selection of root dry weight and volume can increase nitrogen use efficiency of wheat.
