Abstract: The no-milo cytoplasm of A2 Sorghum(Sorghum bicolor L.Moench)male sterile line A2V4 was from IS12662C,with nuclear background of chicletts.Hybrids using A2 V4 male sterile line have been released for commercial use.In this study,A2V4/B2V4 were used to study the processes of microspore abortion during anther development in A2cMS.Many abnormal phenomena were observed in A2cMS anther development. No tapetal cells were formed or tapetam collapsed at very early stage in some anther chamber during the microsporogenesis;Pollen mother cells(PMC) in another chamber were not developed and microspore vacuolized;Tapetum cells developed abnormally, giantized and crammed the anther chamber; Some tapetum cells developed normally, but PMCs developed abnomally, which deformed at sporogeneous stage, and then were abhensive each other and finally degenerated.Nearly no PMCs could complete the process of meiosis, and form the tetrad, leading to the failure of normal microspore development.
