Abstract: Ethylene production of detached leaves from two Chinese cabbage cultivars (Nemesis and Parkins) was studyed Each cultivar had its charateristic of ethylene production from detached leaves and the production pattern of each group was also different Group 1 from Nemesis had the greatest production, while group 3 from Parkins had the greatest one Group 1(outer leaves)from Nemesis had high sensitivity to external ethylene(1 μL/L)and other groups from Nemesis showed no response even to 2 μL/L ethylene The leaves from Parkins had different sensitivities to external ethylene, which were not as high as outer leaves from Nemesis Ethylene production was not positively correlated with leaf age and leaves had different sensitivities to external ethylene.

Key words: Ethylene, Detached leaf, Chinese cabbage
