Abstract: In order to explore the difference of different planting density on the growth, yield and leaf area index of Seedling-edible Chinese cabbage, and to provide theoretical basis and practical guidance for a rational planting density on this vegetable, the effect of planting density on Jingyankuaicai No.6,which was a variety of seedling-edible Chinese cabbage, were studied on plant height, stem diameter, plant expansion, leaf number, single plant weight, yield and leaf area index, and four density levels were designed,i.e. 666 672, 500 000, 444 438, 333 328 plants/ha, providing theoretical basis and practical guidance for a rational planting density on this vegetable. The results showed that the growth, yield and leaf area index in each planting density increased slowly during 21 days after sowing, then increased significantly and reached the peak at 36 days after sowing. Among the planting densities, 444 438 plants/ha showed the best result. Compared with the treatment of 666 672 plants/ha on this peak, the plant height, stem diameter, plant expansion and leaf number were increased by 5.26%, 50.19%, 29.77% and 30.00%, respectively. And the weight, yield, single plant leaf area and leaf area index were increased by 137.56%, 11.64%, 100.50% and 33.67%, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that the relationship between planting density and single plant weight, yield and leaf area index present a parabolic regression equation. There was a reasonable planting density at the peak, and the suitable leaf area index ranged from 9.21 to 11.43. Based on the growth and yield of this vegetable under various density treatments, the rational planting density of Jingyankuaicai No. 6 was at 444 438 plants/ha.
