Abstract: Quantitative methods for evaluating the sum of squares(SS)and the sum of absolute values(SA)used for testing the difference between multiple traits of F1and breeding objectives were put forward for evaluating and selecting F1 crosses in wheat cross breeding. In the program,SS= ∑niwi(Fli-Ii)2/max(Fli-Ii)2and SA=∑niwi(|Fli-Ii|/max|Fli- Ii|),and the smaller the values of SS or SAis,the better the F1 crossis.Using them ethods or SS and SA,32 crosses of F1 from wheat breeding for yield were analysed with testing their effects by actual selection in F2 generation. The results showed that F1 crosses can be well evaluated with the methods and F1 can be graded while part of crosses in F1 generation can be eliminated
