Abstract: S, a photosensitive genic male sterile japonica rice(PGMS), was developed by the combination of convintional breeding with anther culture. It has an obvious fertility transformation period in Beijing plain region and its sterility is stable under 15.0 h photoperiod. This line is characterized by good plant form, fine kernelquality, strong combining ability and high anther culture efficiency. Therefore it can be used in the combination trials in the rice planting region in the north part of the Huabei plain and as a superior intermediate parent.
