Abstract: The AOV of proportion of spurs (PS), number of broke bud (NBB),and internode length (IL) of 110 apple varieties showed significant differences among cultivars.PS and IL would be independent characters due to less correlationship, PS depended on the variation of NBB.The cluster results of the 3 characters each suggested a classification of varieties into short, medium and long IL; abundent, medium and poor PS;and great, more, fairly and less NBB.Some of spur type mutants were short IL types while some of them were abundent PS varieties based on this classification, when compared with its original cultivar or the others. Not all the spur types characterized as short IL,abundent PS and great NBB, and not all the short IL,abundent PS and great NBB’s performed as spur types.
