Abstract: A preliminary method for identification of seedling resistance of Chinese cabbage to soft rot (Erwinia carotovora) was established 66 varieties were tested according to the method. A significant variation of resistance both to root invasion and to latent infection were existed among different varieties, with bacterial population in root tissues from 0 (90009 et al.) to 2. 8 × 105CFU/g. fw(90008), and disease index from 24.3 (90280)to 100 (90003 and 90272) when the root was induced disease. No correlation was found between resistance to root invasion and to latent infection. But in field test the occurrence of disease of adult plants was correlated with the bacterial population in seedling tissues.
