Abstract: Calli obtained from mature embryos, young inflcrcscenes and immature embryos of 32 cultivars of winter wheat were used as test materials.Water stress was induced by polyethylene glycoi. After cmxamining the level of free proline, relative water content, tissue vigor, and osmotic potential of the callus under water stress,it was found that under water stress, the level of free proline increased while the relative water content, tissue vigor and osmotic potential decreased. Cluster analyses indicated that drought resistance at the cellular level was similar to that at the whole-plant level for winter wheat.
