Abstract: The repeated thirst method proved to be reliable to identify the drought-resistance of millet and could lead to repeatable and practical results. The study showed that the drought-resistance of millet was related to its glutinosity, native habitat and the different wither time of the seedling. It had nothing to do with seedling colour and growth period. The whole growth period duration identification in open fields indicated that 94.34% of the varieties had the same identification results both at seedling stage and at panicle stage, and the error rate of using the results of seedling stage as that of panicle stage was 2.88%. Only 75.67% of the varieties had the same identification results both at seedling stage and at ripening stage. The error rate of using the results of seedling stage as that of ripening stage was 16.18%. The drought-resistance identification results indicated that the drought-endurance strength of millet and the length of seedling period could be used as a basis to identify how long the millet could endure drought. According to the strength and length of drought-endurance of millet to drought, we can select drought-resistant millet germplasm suiting to local conditions.
