Abstract: Water stress treatments at different development stages of a winter wheat variety were made by outdoor pot experiments from 1987 to 1988. It was found that the most sensitive stage was the booting stage and the second most sensitive stage was the flowering stage. Water stress at most development stages affects the number of grains. Wheat water stress can be determined effectively and quickly by means of leaf temperature measured by an infrared thermometer in the drought field and the well watered reference plot.
