Abstract: In this study, four cultivars of common wheat(Triticum aestivum L.), including types of winter, semi-winter and spring wheat, were sown at mon-thly intervals from Oct.198? to July.1984 in Banding,Hebei I'rovincc. The spike differentiation of main stem was studied fur the cultivars tested. The results indicate that the spikelet primordium instead of elongation of growth cone is induced by the lower temperature factor."thus, the spikelet diffe-rentiation stage is a critical one in wheat development; The double-develop-ment area in the lower part of grow cone is referred to as transition from vegetative organ primordia to reproductive ones:The number of main stem de-pends on the types of wheat and temperatur a after sowing.
