Abstract: The effects of different concentration exogenous Se(1,2,6,8 mg /L) on physiological effects of ger- mination of mustard seeds under the stress of single concentration Cd(10 mg /L) were studied by hydroponic experi- ment. The results showed that the germination were significantly inhibited(P < 0.01).The starch content and solu- ble sugar content of seedling during the seed germination was markedly lower than the control group(P <0.01),and the MDA content of seedling was significant higher than those in control(P <0.01) under the stress of Cd,which indi- cated that Cd had damage effects on germination of mustard seeds. The germination rate, the starch content and soluble sugar content was increased, and the MDA content was decreased by adding different concentration Se under Cd stress (P <0. 05).It could be concluded that the exogenous Se could effectively alleviate the damage effect by the stress of Cd for the germination of mustard seeds. When exogenous Se concentration was 2 mg /L,the germination rate, the starch content and soluble sugar content were highest, and there were no obviously change compared with the control (P >0. 05),but the all values were significant higher than those of the stress under single concentration Cd(P < 0. 01); the MDA content was lowest and was significant lower than those of the control and the stress under single con- centration Cd(P <0. 01).It could be concluded that when exogenous Se concentration was 2 mg /L,there was best al- leviate effect on the germination of mustard seeds under the stress of single concentration Cd.
