Abstract: The characteristics of imbibitions and protrusion of four different types maize seeds(32 hybrids in all) under different temperatures were determined. Results showed that dynamics of water contents in seeds fit to logarithm model y = aLn(x) + b during the preocesses of imbibitions and protrusion under different temperatures. Siginfieant differentces were also observed among time, the changes of seed's water contents and the max protrusion rates. There is a relationship among the course of seeds' absorbing water and seeds 100-keruel weight, 100-kernel volume, original water content, cortex dry weight proportion, embryonic dry weight proportion and the proportion of embryo proportion to endosperm proportion.
