Abstract: Ethylene release of wheat organs in different density was measured during the different key growth stages. The results showed that release of ethylene was general physiological phenomenon in wheat growth and development stages, but there were big differences in quantity among different tillers, spikelets, florets in different position, and leaves in different developing stages. In general, ethylene release of the inferior tillers was higher than that of the superior ones and main stems before it decreased in the jointing period. This process was postponed in high density populations.Ethylene release of inferior spikelets and florets was higher than that of superior ones.Ethylene release of early functional leaves and senescent leaves was higher than that of full functional leaves. The result also demonstrated that ethylene might regulate the transitance of superior and inferior organs.
