Abstract: The effects of the different models of water and fertilizer management on grain filling characteristics and nitrogen utilization of spring maize in Hilly Regions of Mount Yanshan in Inner Mongolia were studied. The Jingdan 128 as the maize variety and four patterns of water and fertilizer management:no nitrogen(N0),nitrogen with flooding according to the local practice (CK),application rate with drip irrigation under mulch according to the local practice (DI),nitrogen with the model of drip irrigation and fertilization under mulch(WF)we used. The results of successive two years experiment showed:the management of fertigation performed best in grain filling characteristics. It could extend filling stage about 4.4 days compared with CK and improved filling rate effectively with 19.5% compared with CK. Meanwhile, the grain yield had a significantly positive correlation with grain filling rate and filling time. As for nitrogen utilization, the order of (nitrogen use efficiency, partial factor productivity, agronomic efficiency and nitrogen physiological utilization) performance in treatments (WF,DI and CK) was:WF > DI > CK. The nitrogen use efficiency of WF reached 60.8% and increased 33.4 percentage points compared with CK. The yield order was WF > DI > CK > N0 and,WF increased 47.1% compared with CK. Comprehensive analysis, drip irrigation fertigation nitrogen (WF) model is suitable for application and promotion in the region.
