Abstract: The major blast resistance genes Pi-b,showed good resistance spectrum to rice blast in many rice growing areas of China, and has been utilized in rice breeding and production. However, the distribution of this gene in rice of Heilongjiang Province has not been well investigated, resulting in the blindness of their utilization in rice breeding. In this study, the existences of the gene in 36 rice cultivars /lines were rapidly determined using the dominant DNA marker Pi-b /Pi-b alleles. The Pi-b gene alone were found in four cultivars /lines. i. e. Kendao 06-193,Kendao06-774,Kendao19,Kendao13. These results are useful for rational utilization and layout of the rice cultivars with the Pi-b gene in cold region, and for incorporating and stacking this gene into elite present leading cultivars / lines by marker assisted selection in rice breeding.
