Abstract: Effect of erect panicle japonica gene on agronomic traits were studied using a pair of erect panicle type near-isogenic lines(ZFl4 and WFl4)derived from high—generation(F14)of curved panicle variety Toyonihiki and erect panicle variety”Liaojing 5”cross.The results showed that the erect panicle gene(EP)have the effect of not only making panicle type erect, but also making plant height dwarf, panicle length short, leaf posture erect, leaves wide and short and s0 on.EP increased the number of secondary branch on primary branch.consequently EP raised yield through increasing fertilized spikelet number on secondary branch and grain density.EP may have expression effect from the seedling growth stage(10 d after sowing). It make seedlings present differences in plant height。leaf shape and dry weight. The inherent physiological causes that NILs made difference in morphological traits were that endoge· nous hormone contents differenced in each growth stage.
