Abstract: The shape and size of the Trichinella spiralis isolate from the pigs in Nanyang were observed. Its reproductive capacity index(RCI)in mouse or pig and the new born larvae production of per female worm in vitro(NBL)as well as its resistance to low temperature were determined. The results showed that the average length and width of the male or female adult worms and the muscle larvae of the isolate were(1.415±0.164)mm×(0.048±0.014)mm,(2.627±0.246)mm×(0.056±0.018)mm and(1.112±0.185)mm×(0.038±0.013)mm,respectively.The RCI of the isolate in mouse and pig were(112.0±59.65) and 142.5,respectively,with a mean NBL of(56.76±5.13) per female. The infective muscle larvae of the isolate became dead after 36 h at-32℃or after 60 h at22℃ in pig muscles. The results indicated that the biological characters of the isolate were similar to that of T.spiralis.
