Abstract: Under the field experimental conditions, effects of nitrogen fertilizer on grain filling and starch properties was studied by using two winter wheat cultivars, Yumai 49-198, a multi-spike wheat cultivar, and Lankaoaizao 8, a large-spike wheat cultivar. The results indicated that kernel dry weight and the rate of grain filling of two wheat cultivars was increased in grain filling stage. With nitrogen application rate increased, the kernel dry weight and grain filling rate of Lankaoaizao 8 increased while Yumai 49-198 decreased. The highest value of kernel dry weight and grain filling rate of Lankaoaizao 8 were observed in N3 treatment. Starch paste properties of Lankaoaizao 8 increased with added nitrogen and the highest value were observed in N3 treatment. The starch paste parameters of Yumai 49-198 increased with nitrogen application rate increasing and attained the highest value in N2 treatment. The difference between treatments of Yumai 49-198 was not significant.
