Abstract: The tolerance to low temperature and low light were tested on 8 cultivars. The preliminary results showed that the treatment of 15℃/5℃(day/night)、4000lx light intensity for 15 days in seedlings was determined as optimal stress for screening breeding materials tolerant to low temperature and low light intensity.Under this stress environment, low temperature tolerant cultivars showed neither chilling injury nor fallen leaves while sensitive cultivars shed leaves, the growing point become black and withered. There was significant difference between tolerant and sensitive cultivars. The chlorophyll content in leaves of low temperature tolerant cultivars increased during treatment while that of the sensitive cultivars decreased. It is concluded that this result may lay a reliable foundation for further improving the evaluation of cultivars tolerant to low temperature and low light intensity.
