Abstract: A intergeneric distant hybridization was carried out by using of a millet variety Shuang qing as female parent and a sorghum variety Lishihuang as male parent.Cross-incompatibility was overcome by controlling temperature, moisture and improving crossing techniques.A new material- C223, which have been confirmed by cytogenetics and biochemistry analysis, was successfully bred first time in China.Seventeen new hybrid strains with stable genetic characters were created by backcrossing. With backcrossing and multiple-crossing of those neW materials,a millet variety Qingfeng was bred, which characterized by root flourishing, ledging resistance, disease resistance and high yield. The yield of Qingfeng was 15.4 percent higher than the popularized millet variety Yugu 1.
