Abstract: Using the methods of artificial inoculation in field and in pot (the soil had been sterilized) and determination of 33 peroxidase isoenzyme, 1919 foxtail millet materials resistant to Aphelenchoides besseyi were identified 1984-1988 Twenty two materials had been screened to be used as resistance sources. Among them there were 5 poly-resistant and 5 amphi-resistant sources, 3 poly-resistant and 1 amphi-resistant sources of good quality. These newly discovered and valuable sources in China were important material base for breeding new poly-resistant and good-quality millet varie ties. The results indicated that the peroxidase isoenzymes were markedly different between resistant varieties and infected varieties. The disease resistance was interrelated with the millet growth period, the density of spi-kelets and the length of seta.
