Abstract: W403,a round shaped, and W405,a pear shaped var.cerasiforme, were employed to establish six genealogical populations,P1,F1,P1,B1,B2and F2,the fruit shape index of the populations were analyzed by means of classic genetics and the major gene+polygene mixed inheritance model of quantitative traits. The results showed that, the Fruit shape index was controlled by two completely dominant major gene plus additive dominant polygene model.Heritability values of the major genes of B1,B2and F2population were 14.99 %,79.05 % and 79.70 % respectively, while those polygene were 5.34 %,7.31 % and 4.89 %.These results indicated that major gene in F2was a key factor and environment factor was also relatively important. This implies that in the genetic improvement of fruit shape index major gene is a main factor whereas environmental effect should be taken care of.
