Abstract: The results of three years successive studies indicated that hybrid wheat treated with chemical hybridizing agent was characterized by its earlier development, more root number and more drymatter accumulation of tillers, which minimized the difference between them ainstem and the tillers, and there fore could lay a foundation for reducing plant density.Agronomic factors, sach as planting date, plant density, irrigation etc.,affected the growth and development of tillers. The heterosis decreased with the delay of planting date and the increase of plant density.Generally, satisfactory results could be obtained from 90-210 preliminary shoots per square meters under suitable planting date. The growth of high-position tillers were promoted by early irrigation in spring, but their population quality was deteriorated. It was recommended that first irrigation should be deferred to the elongation stage.
