Abstract: Ultrastructural observation under a transmission electron microscope of pollen development in three cytoplasmic male sterile lines(T,V and K)of wheat on 83(21)35 nuclear background, and that in maintainer line revealed that before and in the process of pollen abortion of cms-T and cms-V,the vacuole membrane seemed to be on the way of dissolution, with the effective separation between the cytoplasm and vacuole having been destroyed and that the phagocytosis of cytoplasm by the vacuole was very violent, resulting in the much thinner cytoplasm, while other organelles such as mitochondria were disintegrated or degenerated. With cms-V,the innerwall of anther tapetum secreted fewer Ubish bodies;but with cms-K,no abnormal changes in mitochondria and plastids happened before pollen abortion, but a concent rically circular composite membranous structure was found to be appear at a high frequency.
