Abstract: Ideal plant type of hybrid in maize was studied by use of stepwise regression, genetic correlation and path analysis.Seven characters such as branchs of tassel, length of ear,ear rows, seed number of row,1000 weight, shelling percentage and grain yield per plant were tested under gaven ccologic and cultural condition. The results suggest that the yield per plant was determined relatively by the direct effect of number of ear row and 1000 weight and the indirect effect of ear length through, seed number of row.And considered that these 3 characters might be used as select index, because they were the main factors which influence the grain yield. The high yielding hybrid could beselected by select these 3 characters directly and compromise the relationship of 1000 kernel weight and seed number of ear row.

Key words: Maize genetic correlation, Path analysis, Determinate coefficient
