Study on the Sugar Content in the Stems and Sap Squeezing Rate of Sweet Sorghum

Abstract: The brixs and correlations between individual internodes and the whole stem, sap squeezing rate of 10 sweet sorghum varieties were studied through the correlation and regression analysis and path analysis.The results showed as following:The birx velue in individual internodes from the top of the stem to the bottom was fluctuated as low- highlow. The values of birxes in the central and upper internotes counted from the top of the stem were the highest. In the overall the birx value of the whole stem could be represented with the values of 7th and 8th intemotes, but the intemotes are different regarding different sweet sorghum varieties.The birx value of the whole stem could be represented with the mean birx of all internodes. The brix degrees of the individual internodes of the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 9th internodes ha highly direct positive effects on the birx of the whole stem. The birx degree of the 7th and 9th internode had a high direct pos-i tive effect on the birx of the whole stem. The birx of the 4 th, 6th, 8th and 10th internodes had high direct negative effecton the birx of the whole stem. The brix degrees of the individual internodes of the 1st, 2rd, 7th and 8th internodes had high directly positive effects on the squeezing rate.The birx degree of the 8th internode had a high directly positive effect on the squeezing rate. The birx degree of the 3th, 5th, 9th and 10th internodes had high directly negative effects on the squeezing rate.
