Abstract: The sprouting resistant mechanism of wheat is related to ABA sensitivity of embryo and activity of a-amy-lase.We studied the effects of glucose and ABA on germination and a-amylase expression in different physiological state ofwheat embryo, including immature embryo(IME),cbrmant mature embryo (DME) and non cbrmant mature embryo(NDME).The results indicated that glucose could stimulate gem}ination of embryo in different physiological states, andABA sensitivity of embryo is related to its physiological state. Qucose could mitigate the inhibition of ABA on embryo gerurination in all physiological states. To NDME,giucose could suppress the inhibition of ABA on radicle emergence but notin later moiphological growth. Expression of a-amylase in embryos could be inhibited bygiucose, but the effect of ABA ona-amylase expression was related to the physiological state of embryos. The expression of a-Amyl was inhibited in IMEand DME,but was induced in NDME. Thus, the physiological state of seeds should be considered when ABA embryonicsensitivity and a-amylase activity was evaluated.
