Abstract: An additive-dominance genetic model with genotype by environment interaction, combined with unconditional and conditional variances approaches, was applied to analyze the developmental genetic behavior in leaf stay-green trait at different developmental stages in maize under different environmental conditions. The results indicated that the genetic main effects for leaf stay-green at different developmental stages were affected by environmental changes and the differences in gene expression levels among different environments were found for maize leaf stay-green by unconditional variance analysis.According to conditional variance analysis, the new net genetic effects for leaf stay-green were found to varied extents at different developmental stages, the net genetic effects of stay-green selection were affected by the environmental conditions in the developmental course from silking to maturity.
